Alexander Valley Gewürztraminer

Gewürztraminer (guh-vurt-struh-meaner) is a white wine grape most commonly associated with France or Germany. This particular gewürztraminer, however, is from Alexander Valley Vineyards in California. Typical of most gewürztraminers, this wine has the most beautiful perfumey, floral nose. At first sniff, you would probably expect this wine to be sweet (which many gewürztraminers are), but this one is actually on the dryer side.

Have you ever had to share a bottle of wine with someone who has totally different tastes in wine than you? I often have guests over for dinner, and this happens to me frequently. I am not a huge fan of drinking overly sweet wines, but I know many people who do prefer that style. This bottle would be a perfect shared bottle to appeal to both sweet and dry drinkers alike! The nose on it can somewhat trick your palate into thinking its sweet even though its not!

I cooked Chicken Tikka Masala for dinner and drank this delicious aromatic and high acid wine with it. It was the perfect pairing to help temper the heat level on the food. Another terrific food pairing with this wine would be any stinky cheeses (think gorgonzola or stilton)!

I found this bottle at my own little wine bar, The Stem and Stein, and it cost $15.99! Such a great wine for this price! I am sure I will find myself reaching for this bottle over and over again.
